As winter is slowly grinding to a chilly end …so is the 12-month journey that our 147 learners undertook in 2023. We’re proud to share that this learnership program retained 65% of its learners. Although this figure is below our national benchmark it presents another successful collaboration between W&R SETA, the retailer, and RelatED Education.
Challenges Facing South Africa’s Retail Sector
The retail sector of South Africa is under immense pressure. The combination of technology, political uncertainty, Eskom and overseas players entering our market has created angst amongst businesses in general. The retail industry (because of its soft underbelly) has become fair game. This has created the need for training and development to make South Africans, especially the youth, more skilful and competitive in the job market.
At RelatED Education, we pride ourselves on continually improving and enhancing our course offerings and expertise to add value to our client’s businesses. Any business will jump for joy if its skilful, competent, energised and engaged staff can shoot out the lights.
Fighting Unemployment Through Education
If there was a destructive force contributing to fragmented social cohesion, it would be unemployment. So, with great pleasure, we share that some of our learners have been absorbed into the BuCo (The Building Company) family as part of their permanent staff. These young professionals will fill various roles in the retail sector. For our learners to be a part of the first pool of eligible candidates that retailers look to employ speaks volumes to the impact that our retail qualifications have on the employability of the South African jobseeker’s pool. This is a true testament to the positive impact education has on youth development.
